If you are working in an area that is much mineralized, you will most likely need to continue changing the fine tuner on your detector to accommodate it. It is sometime a bit difficult to differentiate small sounds that sound like targets and little areas of mineralization and often times a great amount of time can be spend and wasted on digging for noises instead of targets. Remember that sometimes reducing the sensitivity level of the detector can avoid it from overloading and this will allow you to hold ground balance better and there will be a lot less interference from the false noises in the ground. An iron discrimination feature is not always reliable in highly mineralized ground. In these cases it is necessary to dig out all the targets. Try to get the iron identification more reliable by changing your operation though. This can be done sometimes by passing the loop over the target more slowly as it will make the reading be more precise. In some detectors the audio breaks up an iron target in which the needle flicks to the right just as what occurs in the air and with medium ground. However with extreme ground and when the target is too near the loop, the audio sound can break and cause the needle to flick. After some time you can hear slight distinctions. You will notice that an iron target will let out more of a pronounced chatter, while the misidentified gold flake will let out a zip sound with a little break sound. In addition you will notice that the needle on the detector will go much more to the right with iron than with non iron materials. If this is utilized correctly, this is a feature that can reduce a good amount of trash from being dug up and will not interfere with the amount of gold that needs to be recovered. The audio signal will only become adapted but not removed. So this means that it is not possible to pass up a gold nugget. All of the targets that are inside the range of the detector will be heard even if the detector is being used on the Iron Disc mode “on” or “off”. Teensy pieces of iron might be registered as gold and in some cases even a bigger piece of iron will too. By making a mistake in agreement with gold means that you will not pass over the targets you are looking for. as previously mentioned, only in a great amount of mineralization and when the targets are very near, that a great amount of heed needs to be placed into deducing this or any other way of discrimination on the detector.
