When does a prospector need to use the non motion all metal mode?

As we had previously mentioned, when working with a detector, it should always be used in the all metal mode. The all metal mode is the setting the detector has which permits all metal target to be detected. In addition, when it is in association with an S.A.T or autotune circuit, it works even better in places with a lot of mineralization. The autotune circuit changes the regular all metal mode from non motion to a motion mode. It is necessary for the coil or loop to be in motion so that the prospector is able to hear the target signal. In a lot of cases the target signal makes a short zipping sound and this makes it a little bit simpler to identify the target. There are times in which the detector can change from motion to the non motion mode with a button or a little trigger on the detector and this can help the prospector locate the target. If your detector has this then it should be utilized. However, you will realize that after you have sometime using it and get more practice, you will not have to use it anymore. It can be used to help find the size of target however, it is still better to work in the autotune or S.A.T motion.

The threshold hum
The weak hum sound that is referred to as the threshold hum can be attuned with the control that is more formally known as the tuner. The tuner needs to be turned clockwise until the prospector is able to hear a light hum. The prospector should wear headphones in order to adjust this hum correctly. In cases where the tuner is set at a more reduced level and when a hum can still be heard, it’s most likely a hum that is coming from the headphones. Make sure you remember what the hum sounds like and then increase the setting of the tuner until you are able to increase the sound bit more. Some detectors will let off a little bit of chatter instead of a hum.

Setting the Volume Control on the Metal Detector
Not all detectors have volume control. If your detector does have one, then it’s better to set it at its maximum volume. However, keep in mind that the volume control is not the same as the threshold hum given that the threshold hum needs to be kept at the minimum. The job of the volume on a detector is to control the response of the target. It’s suggested to use headphones that have their own volume controls tough. You should control the volume of the signals with headphones instead of using the volume control of the detector.
