When a Property is Turned Down
A nice looking property may possibly be turned down due to the difficulties of getting to the area, because the price of the purchase seems like too much for the risk that comes along with the property, or because of apparently difficult demands as far as the time that is allowed for exploration. Remember that an engineer or geologist is put in charge of the responsibility of investing the money of his employer. His job is to gain the respect of the management and gain the confidence that has been given to his making a decision. It is possible that the agent will be a lot more conservative than the owner of the mine as far as projecting ore bodies is concerned. The conservatism of the engineer or agent has to do with the fact that this person is in charge of weighing one property over the other and decide where the capital of his firm is going to be invested in so as to obtain the most amount of profit from it. Even in cases when the agent has been impressed enough to put out a deal, the report he writes and the recommendations are thoroughly inspected by other geologist, engineers and management personnel. A good recommendation might be turned around for any number of reasons on any level of the corporation. It is normal for most of the mining companies to be hesitant to take long chances on underdeveloped ground unless the monetary potential is sufficiently outstanding to justify the risk they are going to take on. The choice to make a gamble on a property that does not show very much geologic possibility is better left to an investor that does not have a major interest in mining. There are times though in which these speculations have proven to be successful.
Obtaining contacts There are certain places such as in the Division of Mines and Geology in Alaska in which when prospecting is done, it is a good idea to be aware of the mining companies that are interested as they can many times put a prospector in touch with investors that are interested in certain or specific types of properties. There are in addition professional agents and promoters that take care of carrying out very necessary services in the mining industry. For instance, in the case of property owners that do not have the contacts he needs to bring his prospect to the attention of potential buyers might be very interested in working through an agent. Before a prospector gets into such a deal though, the commissions that are going to be given and agreed on need to be clearly stated and understood. Another legitimate business that can be done is mine promotion. This is when an owner that is trying to sell a property runs into problems in the field because he does not have any experience at this business. Making an agreement with a renowned mine promoter could result in something advantageous for both, the promoter on his side can bring about knowledge and experience and also the time and work that needs to be put into the job for it to be carried out successfully.
