The Yukon and Northwest Territories
The Prospectors’ Assistance Program has been set up to encourage the search for gold as well as other minerals in the Yukon and in the Northwest Territories. The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Ottawa, Ontario, takes care of supplying the funds to finance the individual companies. The idea mainly, is that a prospector is able to get financial help of up to nine hundred dollars per fiscal year in order to help finance a prospecting undertaking in the Yukon or in the Northwest Territories. The amounts of funding a prospector might be able to obtain will mainly depend on the following: Total amount of rental of equipment, food and expendable items that do not go above that of $350. The rest can be of up to $550 and can be utilized for the traveling expenses that will occur on while on the field. This can be utilized for air charter, renting vehicles, boats, horses etc. In cases in which the prospector makes use of his own vehicle, airplane or boat, the usual operating costs might be charged against this allotment by handing vouchers or he might use approved rental rates on a per mile basis that needs to be approved by the Prospectors’ Assistance Board. The prospector will possibly be able to get an advance of up to two thirds at the start of the season and the rest will be paid after the prospector has finished his work on the field to the agreement of the Review Committee. |
