Sulphur
Sulphur is an element that can be found in a lot of minerals made up from the group known as sulphides. It can additionally be found in its natural state and can be exploited commercially. Almost all of the rich deposits in the country have been located in Louisiana and Texas. Sulphur can easily be recognized because of its yellow color. It has a very low melting point, which is just over one hundred degrees. One of the ways it can be distinguished is by the odor it lets off when it is burning. Sulphur can often times be found in crystal form in isolated places and these have a lot of value to people that are into collecting rocks. It is important to not handle sulphur crystals because the heat of a person’s hand will cause them to expand and they can also crack. Sulphur has a resinous luster to it, has a hardness of 1.5 to 2 and a specific gravity of 2 to 2.1. |
