A wide variety of smaller bars by many manufacturers is not deliverable to any exchange, but trades among markets in smaller markets. Troy weight is based on a pound of 12 ounces and an ounce of 480 grains. It is the universal measure by which gold is weighed and sold in all international markets.

the purity of gold jewelry is always classified in karat (also known as carat).
