So How Exactly do you Pan Gold?

In order to use the pan you will need to squat down next to a stream and dump a shovel full of dirt inside the pan. You will then need to scoop up around one pint of water by cleverly tapping the edge of the pan in the creek.

After you have done this and have the water in your pan, you will need to mix the water around until it gets a bit soupy. After that you can scoop up around a quart of water and swirl it round and round just like a wine taster would do. After it starts up in a little bit of whirlpool you should slant the pan just a bit and allow some of the mixture pour over the edge away from you, that is, unless you want to get full of mud.

Then you will need to add a little more water and keep on doing the same until the sand and gravel and mud have all left the pan over the edge and you should be left with a streak of red or black sand. After this you should drain as much water as you can and give the pan a skillful little tap to spread the rest of the sand evenly out over the bottom of the pan. This is when you will examine it. If you are able to see around twelve or a few more flecks of gold that have the size of a pin head, you are doing just fine.

You can pour the sand and gold into the wide mouthed plastic container so that you can later separate it as you please and then you can start on a new load of dirt. Although you may be tempted, we do not suggest you try to separate the gold you have obtained out there in the field. There are better ways of doing this and you should take as much advantage as you can of the energy you do have to continue panning.

It is highly suggested you dig deep in the earth. You should avoid wasting your time at digging in the river itself because the job will be a lot more efficient if you dig in the banks of the river. As you know by now, gold settles and the deeper inside you dig for your pan full of dirt, the better chances there are of getting to that gold. Continue up with the digging until you run into a bed rock or a barrier layer.
