Selecting a resin to recover Gold

Resin must be selected considering the following factors:

  • Strong base resins have higher loading capacity and rate. However selectivity is poor and elution is difficult.
  • Weak base resins are selective and elution is easy, but its loading rate is slow.
  • Strong base resins are cheaper than weak base resins.
  • Weak base resins offer a good elution rate and the elution reagents are cheaper than the reagents employed in strong base resins.
  • Resins to be chosen must be consider the resistance to osmotic shock in order to don’t alter its structure.
  • Resin must have an appropriate porosity.
  • Resin must not be soluble.
  • Resins physical resistance is an important aspect because there are some losses by mechanical agitation, pumping, and screening.
