Retrieving Prospected Samples
Note: the samples should be taken with a permanent market to then place it in a resistant plastic covering or if possible one made out of cloth, over which the new number will be marked. If the sample is of loose material, write the number on a card, possibly a plastic one and place it inside of the covering. For the numbering there are different systems that can be used, for example:
- David Arevalo: MF 125
- Ivan Sarco: AS 98
- Alvaro Sanchez: MA 25
You can also define a certain amount of samples for each team. For instance:
- David Arevalo from 0001 to 1000
- Ivan Sarco: from 1001 to 2000
- Alvaro Sanchez: from 2001 to 3000
The relative sign for each sample will be put on the map and the camp booklet will also need to have information about its description, the geographical coordinates or any other information that facilitates localization of it. Measure the direction and pitch of the stratification, of the schistosity and of the significant fractures, as well as lineation. Look for mineralization that are at simple sight and eventually do this with the magnifying glass, look to see if the rock has suffered any type of alteration and look for products that have become corroded. In tropical areas, the greatest part of outcrops do not show up on the surface and in some favorable cases consist in a good square meter, often times sterile, made for the most part out of minerals of metallic deposits or of rusted sulphur whose rusting products are more or less soluble in meteoric waters and of streams. Oxides are the most resistant such as in the case of magnetite, oligistic, chromites and some magnesium minerals. The existence of some certain minerals can be determined based on the color. It is also necessary to pay attention to the alterations that have occurred to the rock, those that have become decayed, have a reddish, brown or black color to them due to Fe or Mn oxide. If these are formed in part by hollow quartz some what impregnated with an ochre clay color and of hematite, there are many probabilities that these belong to the superficial part, the top layer of a mineralized deposit. A good examination will allow the existence of minerals or simply of its mold to be known.
