Providence and Hackberry Mountain

The Providence Mountains and the Hackberry Mountain had a good amount of gold in them at one time. The Trojan or Providence district had its moment of activity starting around 1912 until around 1919. To get to the Providence Mountains all you have to do is take the Essex Road going out of the town of Essex. If you want to, you also have the choice of stopping over at the Mitchell Caverns and this has some of the most incredible displays of cave coral, stalactites and stalagmites. The Mitchell Cavern is famous worldwide because of it. If you are interested in getting to the Hackberry Mountain simply take the Lanfair Road north from the town of Goffs. Goffs is located on the east side of Essex before you go to Needles. The deposits of gold in this place have been mined on since 1890. There has also been indications of cupro descloizite in this area which is a rare vanadium bearing mineral. Vanadium is useful given that it is utilized as an alloy to strengthen steel. The Arrowhead district is also located in the Province Mountains and the first Mexican miners worked on the rich surface ores in this area in arrastras. It is said that the Hidden Hill Mine in this area once hit a pocket that had the weight of three hundred pounds and that it had the value of $13,000.
