Presetting Ground Balance

Most professionals on the field are under the idea that presetting ground balance to cancel an average level of mineralization is not appropriate enough for prospecting gold. Keep in mind that the conditions of the ground in gold bearing areas have a tendency of changing very quickly and it is simply not possible to find an average ground. What is even more important is that the extent in which the ground balancing is obtained establishes the depth and the size of the particles of gold that can be detected. It is essential that detectors have the ability ground cancel. Remember also, the way in which this is done is by being able to notice the change in the sound of the detector when the loop has been placed close to the ground. Due to this, a metal detector that has been designed by the manufacturer to be used without a sound or hum does not have the ability to be ground balanced this way. These detectors are more commonly known as silent searchers and most experts are under the opinion that they are not adequate for gold prospecting.

Automatic ground canceling
Automatic ground balancing detectors are detectors that do not have manual controls for ground balancing. These use a switch in order to cancel the ground. There are certain detectors of this kind that cancel the mineralization when the looped is placed and moved over the ground and this is more commonly known as tracking. Multipurpose detectors that have a tracking feature in them are very good options when for a gold prospecting metal detector and convenient as well.

S.A.T or Autotune
Ground balancing techniques involve operating in the all metal mode, which is when a detector is able to detect all types of metals no matter what type they are. These kinds of detectors are able to detect gold, silver, copper, aluminum, lead and even iron. All metal mode detectors are normally the kind that the loop does not have to kept in movement when it is being used for searching. This means in other words, that it can be placed over a target and it will still be possible to hear the signal from the target. In most cases multipurpose metal detectors come equipped with this kind of non motion all metal mode and they work very well for prospecting. There is one set back to multipurpose metal detectors though which is that is it sometimes hard to differentiate that better targets due to the sounds in the ground if the mineral in the ground change very quickly from one place to the next and even more so if this setback occurs in a smaller concentrated area. Nonetheless, a characteristic that can be seen in almost all good metal detectors can also be seen in certain multipurpose detectors and are known as Autotune or SAT (self adjusting threshold). This is a detector that is a bit different from the non motion type that we mentioned before because the loop needs to be moved around to give a signal from a target. Once the loop is no longer in motion over a target the signal goes away. This feature is beneficial for prospectors.
