Placers that are located between bedrock and bedrock surface
These kinds of placers are usually found in depths of three to ten feet and in nature they are temporary. If they are not recovered or have not gotten washed out they will sooner or later work their way to bedrock.
Searching in Logs Although logs are not a common place to find transitory placers, there is a good amount of them in the west. In most cases we consider a normal log to be of six inches in diameter however there are a lot of streams in the west that capture logs from timber operations and these can be up to three feet in diameter and have lengths of twenty and even up to forty feet.
After a log has been implanted in a bed load it has a tendency of remaining there and gets water logged. These will often time’s split and cause a crevice, which can then capture gold, in particular if beneath the bed load surface level. Even though it is an unusual place to look in there are some logs that merit looking into as gold has been found in some.
