Other mining areas in the United States
Almost all of the states in the United States have gold in them; some places however are more productive than others. Placer gold has been found along a lot of the intermittent and ephemeral streams of dry regions in certain areas in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and the south of California. In a lot of these places a big reserve of low grade ground can still be found, however given that fact that there is not a lot of water in these areas, the operations done require of expensive dry and semi dry concentrations methods in order to find the gold. In the east part of the United States, smaller amounts of gold have been washed from some of the streams that drain the east slopes of the south part of the Appalachian area, as well as some areas of Maryland, Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. A lot of saprolite deposits of the general area have in addition been mined by placer deposits and a little bit of gold has also been recovered from placer deposits in little New England. A portion of the gold was produced in the east before the discovery of the gold rushes in California. There might be other placer deposits in the east that can be located as well, however it is very probable, that prospecting for these would require a good amount of investment and time given that these areas are not high grade, are not easy to recognize, and it is expensive to explore them and sample them. Besides this, currently the ownership of all the land in the east is such that it is possible the claims will not be staked. As a matter a fact, in order to do prospecting in these areas it is necessary to first obtain the permission of the owners of the properties. |
