Occupations in the Mining Industry

The mining industry had the need of a great number of workers doing diverse types of jobs. Some of the diverse types of jobs that are done in these set ups is:

Mining jobs. Almost all of the jobs in the mining industry are in construction and extraction jobs. Even though almost all of these jobs can be gotten into straight after having completed high school, or after having gained some knowledge and actual experience and training in an entry level position, the increasing complexity of equipment and machinery that is utilized in mining calls for a more advanced level of technical skill is now necessary for a lot of positions. Underground mining first and foremost comprises of three different methods which are conventional, continuous, and longwall mining. Conventional mining, which is terminating gradually, is the oldest type of method that used to be used, having need of the most workers and procedures. In this technique, a strip or kerf is cut under the ore seam in order to direct the way in which the ore falls right after having been blasted. The operators of cutting machines utilize a big size electric chain saw that has a cutter from 6 to 15 feet long to be able to cut the kerf. Then, the operators of drilling machine drill holes in the ore where the shot firers put the explosives in place. This is obviously a very dangerous job and it is required that all workers that do this follow the safety procedures, for instance making sure everybody is off of the blasting perimeter before the explosives are detonated. After the blast takes place, loading machine operators are in charge of scooping up the material and throw it into little cars, which then take the ore or minerals to a central location so they can be transported to the surface. The ongoing mining technique gets rid of the drilling and blasting operation of conventional mining through the use of a machine that is known as a continuous miner. Usually, a continuous mining machine operator is in charge of sitting or lying in a machine’s cab and works levers that have the function of cutting or ripping the load out of the ground and load it right onto the conveyor or shuttle car. Nevertheless, the usage of remote controlled continuous mining machines, and of which have improved safety a great amount now lets an operator control the machine from a distance instead of having to work in the danger zone.
