Mineral Deposits, What are they?

Mineral deposits consist of concentrations of minerals and, as such, it is a geological term. Whether a mineral deposit is also an ore deposit will have to do with economics. This simply means that the word “ore” is an monetary term.

Ore deposits can be classified according to a quantity of diverse principles, such as that:

  • The minerals that are inside the deposit such as porphyry copper deposits.
  • The contour or dimension of the deposit such as stratabound or strataform deposits.
  • The host rocks such as breccia pipes and shale hosted deposits.
  • The origin of the deposit

There are on the whole five genetic courses of action that show the way to the concentration of minerals and these include:

  • Hydrothermal mineral deposits form in connection with water and magma.
  • Magmatic mineral deposits concentrated in igneous rocks.
  • Sedimentary mineral deposits are precipitated from a solution, which in most cases is seawater.
  • Placer minerals are classified and scattered due to the flow of water.
  • Residual mineral deposits that come about due to weathering responses at the earth's surface.
