Metallic Gold

Metallic gold can be found in placer form like the nuggets that are in the crystalline form, like that in quartz or in many other ways. In the mountains areas or desert areas coarse and broken pieces of gold can also be found that come from veins or outcroppings. When these little pieces have become smoothed down and rounded, which can take a process of millions of years; they are at times brought down with the help of water. These more common placer gold pieces can be located in desert and mountain areas. The rougher or coarser pieces of gold can in many occasions are found in desert areas that used to be covered with ancient lakes or oceans. The more rounded out pieces and the smoother ones can often times be found in ancient tertiary river beds or in modern streams. However, the denominator is that these types are all known as metallic gold and detectors are able to sense them. There is another type of gold that is known as flour gold or gold dust which is too small for a detector to detect even when it can be found in concentrations that would be worthwhile getting to. Fine gold is usually found together with black magnetic sand and therefore the possibility of gold concentrations. Nonetheless, given that most of the black sand gold pockets are very deep, they are not very convenient for searching with a detector that is unless the job is being done in a smaller stream that has shallow bedrock. Another way in which gold can also be found is as microscopic gold as well as in sulphides and salts however, these are not the most convenient for gold detectors either.
