Mechanized Methods of Sampling

Churn Drill drillings. This method consists in the execution of drills for percussion with casing (tube), through these mechanized equipments to obtain a triturated sample.

The sampling, in general, is obtained by intervals of 25 cm. of advance, this varies according to the characteristics of the material of the deposit (thick and thin gravel, etc.), which influences in the rising of the material, be it by excess or defect.

Once the drilling machine is installed, the drilling begins with the location of the shoe cassing, which is introduced through hammering, first until a depth of 1.00 m. with the objective of getting its stability. Immediately, through the chisel, one proceeds to the triturating of the gravel which has gone up within the tubing; after getting the desired depth you remove the hammer and the chisel.

With adequate adding of water when it is necessary, you proceed to the operation of pumping to a reception canal inclined which goes to a cylindrical container, whose capacity is graduated in lineal meters, where the sampling extracted volume is measured with a graduated ruler. The pumping consists in introducing through gravity the sonic pump fisherman type until the end of the drill, the triturated material enters into the pump through the lower part, after when extracting the loaded pump, close the check valve.

Finally, the triturated sample – slime – will be beat in conjunction with the material of the barrel of slime, to perform the counting of the gold particles present in the sand in a classifying container and, finally, register in the bulletin of sounding the geo-mineralogical characteristics of the alluvial placing. Between the perforation machines, the most usual are the classics BANKAS EMPIRE (4” – 6”), portables and of manual operation, and the drills BUCYRUS ERIE with cassing of 6” of diameter.
