Means of Transportation

Which are the means of transportation that are available for the mission? And in what state can they be found? Whether they are fluvial, in land or air, do they adapt to the work conditions? And which are the local possibilities of finding replacements? If it is possible, choose a brand that you will be able to assure a service of the right kind of maintenance and a possible assistant during the mission, as well as a stock of guaranteed replacements.

Motor Land Vehicles
Before starting on a mission, make sure to take a maintenance manual and a list of the most necessary replacements that should be bought and sent to the site (pay attention to the delivery times and the customs processes). The vehicles, usually in standard models, are not adequate for the conditions of usage and climatic conditions they will need to perform in. because of this it is convenient to make certain adaptations:

  • Have a supplementary reservoir for a travel time of at least one thousand kilometers (especially in the cases when working in desert areas.)
  • Have a reservoir of water or jerry cans of water. Never place the gasoline takes inside the car.
  • Lateral projector, on the side of the driver, to drive at night on any type of terrain.
  • Thermometer for the water of the motor, pressure gauge for the pressure of the oil.
  • Good lighting in the cabin.
  • Two spare tires.
  • Shovel and an ax.
  • Double battery, especially if the car is equipped with a radio and alternator for recharge.
  • Reinforced suspensions.
  • Hydraulic directions are advisable.
  • Cable for towing.

It is possible that the installing of a winch will be necessary or a fault, a turret or a clamp, in order to pull in case of getting stuck in a swamp area or quick sand. In some types of terrain it might be convenient to use a motorcycle in order to facilitate circulating into places where the vehicle is not able to go through.
