Lead

The main ore of lead is galena, which can in many cases be found in abundance in silver as well. Galena takes place in crystal form and bigger crystals are common. On some occasions it occurs in teensy crystals that seem to be big masses. Galena has a lead gray to silvery color to it and many prospectors believe that the lighter colors have the most amount of silver in it. The only real way to tell is by taking it to get assayed. It is easy to identify galena in the field because of its hardness, as it will barely scratch with a fingernail. If you hold it on a flame, it will make out a bubble of lead. It has a metallic luster to it, a harness of 2.5 and a specific gravity of 7.4 to 7.6.
