During the last years many researches have focused their studies in alternative processes to cyanidation. Many of these processes are unknown or the information is not copiously. The hydrometallurgical recovery of gold from any resources is accomplished by leaching and cyanide is used most the time. Due to its high toxicity some alternatives are sought and hope that can be employed in the future. Many alternative processes employ leaching agents such as thiourea, thiocyanate, thiosulphate, bromine, chlorine, and iodine. Some of these reagents were employed in the past but its use is always an important alternative when there is not a clear way for gold recovery. The next lines will mention and describe some of these alternative processes.
