How to Operate the Engine

Ok so maybe you are asking yourself why we decided to talk about how to operate and prime the pump but that we have not gone over the engine. The reason for this is because in most cases when people are starting out with this, the first problems that arise have to do with the centrifugal pump. And it is very important the pump be primed quickly so that it works efficiently.

A great number of newcomers start their engines and then try to learn how to prime and unfortunately some have not had good results. After you have launched your dredge for the first time we suggest you try to prime the pump in the way we described. Keep in mind that it is always possible you just so happen to be the person that ends up with the one-foot valve that is defective or that has not been installed adequately.

All right, so now that you launched your dredge and are aware of how the centrifugal pump needs to be primed, you will need to start your engine and activate the system.

If you have just purchased your dredge, you should have gotten a separate owner’s manual that should be inside with the literature that came with your new dredge. If you do not have a manual, you will need to ask your manufacturer to provide one for you before hand.

Make sure that you study and re-study the manual very closely and follow all the recommendations of the manufacturer. The manual will provide you with the rules of maintenance that in many cases are overlooked by people.

Due to the fact that you are dealing with such a powerful engine that is highly sophisticated and that is going to be used for long periods of time, you should pay special attention to the rules etc. make sure you follow the recommendations of oil changes, cleaning the filter etc. remember that this can save you from having to purchase new parts which can be costly in some cases.
