How Gold Panning Works

In general, gold pans and the methods that are used for gold panning these days have not changed for thousands of years. We are still using the same method the old time miners and prospectors used in the past. Due to the fact that gold is a little bit over nineteen times as heavy as water, it sinks very quickly and it can be easily recovered by panning it. There were many different methods that have been used for panning since many years ago and different types of containers have been used as well.

However, no matter how much time has gone by, the methods for recovering gold by panning it has stayed pretty much the same. Believe it or not, gold can be recovered by using any type of bowl, jar, metal container, as well as different types of material. Gold can very easily be panned in water or it can be sorted from the lighter dirt and rocks since it is heavy and has a tendency of sinking down very rapidly through all the debris and will find a spot to sit on the bottom. Water is not the only place where gold can be found though; gold can also be found in dry areas by using dry methods where no water is available, however, dry panning or dry washing is not as efficient as it is in the water since in most cases only the larger pieces of gold can be recovered. Dry panning can be done efficiently but sophisticated equipment is needed for it.

To put it in easy words, if you are thinking about looking for gold in a field, make sure you obtain a good gold pan and that you are aware of its importance and learn how to use it the right way.

There are different types of pans and designs and they have been improved a lot since the old prospector’s times. Thankfully the gold pans we have these days are not as heavy as the ones used in the past and they allow us to work quicker when it comes to testing and classifying the concentrates. The gold pans today are not only easier to handle but they also provide better results and are safer especially in the case of people that are just starting out.

In these times, gold panning is still hard work because of that patience that it requires but it is not what it used to be. Gold panning is much easier now and much more productive than before as well. Obviously the fact that the prices of gold have gone up has helped but the gold pans we have available these days are a key item when it comes to panning.
