Hammer Prospecting
Hammer prospecting consists in looking for “indications” of mineralization by means of observation of outcropping, collapsing, detritus of hills and rims. This is done all through an itinerary that is chosen from the available documents such as: photo geological maps, of outcrops, of indications, geological maps, geophysical, geochemical, etc. and also after having gotten information from the habitants of the sector. Usually only a little bit of material is required and only in successive phases some tings like floor samples, light drilling, etc. for the study of indication and abnormalities possibly discovered.
Description and usage of the instruments
Compass There are various types of compasses that can be used both for topographical lifting as well as in geological ones. It is expected everyone is aware of how to use them.
Reagents Previously some chemical solutions can be prepared and some chemical products that allow the completing of some observations made about the land such as:
- Determination of the limestone with hydrochloric acid diluted at ten percent.
- Qualitative determination of the Pb: a solution of fifty percent of aseptic acid is prepared to five percent and fifty percent of potassium iodide of five percent. This reactive, placed over a sample that has lead, develops a characteristic yellow coloring to it.
- Qualitative determination of cassiterite minerals over a metallic zinc plate where some grams of mineral with concentrate HCI is placed on it. After a few minutes if it is Sn02 a layer of a metallic alloy that can be seen at simple site with a compass or microscope forms over it.
