Gold Treasure Tales in Butte County
It was said that there was an Indian that used to work a rich mine in Oroville. When he needed to get supplies and things he would go to the town with a bag full of gold nuggets. The Indian said that he had enough gold in it for fifty men. After the Indian passed away, people tried to find the mine but were not able to.
This area is actually well known for the amount of diamonds that have been found here. In 1866 a man named Maher found a blue diamond in a sluice box. As a matter a fact, more than four hundred diamonds have been located in this area.
