Gold Treasure Tales in Amador County
There is a story of a miner that supposedly buried his gold coins around his cabin; it is said his gold coins were worth $80,000. The miner’s cabin was located in Murders Gulch and it is said he placed the coins in wooden boxes and that the boxes were buried all around the cabin site.
Another lost treasure story tells of two brothers that had a very rich mine in Rancheria Creek in Dry Town. Supposedly after the two brothers accumulated a lot of money, they decided they wanted to go back home in the east. The brothers hid their mine so that nobody would be able to find it while they were away, however the brothers never returned due to sickness, which cause them to die.
Another story tells of an old Spanish miner that had a rich claim in the north of Fiddletown. A friend of the old miner guaranteed that the old man had a gold pan that was full of nuggets. After the old man died, only a few months after having shown his pan of gold nuggets to his friend, the old man’s cabin was searched however, the gold was no where to be found. It is said the old man must have buried it close to his cabin.
