Gold Prospecting
A long time ago gold mining was not what it is and can be today. Since in the past the first miners only had basic equipment it was impossible to get all the gold from a specific area and often times gold was missed. There were some areas in which the Chinese miners that followed the 49ers used to obtain more gold from the tailings then the original miners when they were first working on certain deposits.
The things people used to do in order to save gold from crushed ore was done in such a poor way that it has been estimated that only around twenty to thirty percent of the gold was recovered.
The first hydraulic miners have also said they lost at least a good half of the gold in the gravels and this problem had to do somewhat with the failure of the cemented gravels that would break before they were able to get washed from the sluice boxes and badly designed methods of recovery.
It is actually incorrect for people to believe that since so many people are prospecting that there will not be any gold left. With the help of new and more modern equipment, the rewards can be bigger and much more exciting. While it is true that it is very unlikely to find gold right under your feet, the type of equipment that is available these days can lead almost anyone to find gold, even in the case of a novice.
There are a great number of people that are getting into gold prospecting these days; some take it up as a hobby while others look at it as an adventure, exercise, time alone and away from the world, etc.
Gold prospecting is wonderful exercise. People that do prospecting always have something to say about the fresh air and the countryside in some places.
The only thing you need at first is a gold pan, a little shovel and a sluice box. Obviously, the first thing you will want to do is study up on it a little bit first. Thankfully these days there is a huge amount of information available on the subject and this can be found on the Internet, magazines, pamphlets, etc. These will also provide you with information on where you can find the tools for prospecting.
After you have invested in some of the basic tools, you will soon realize that the amount of gravel you are able to pan, is directly proportional to the amount of gold you will be able to get.
A gold pan can process around one cubic yard a day. While gold pans are very necessary and basic tools, they do require for the person to do a great amount of work and it can get quite tiring. In this case if you are interested in getting more gold without having to do so much work, we suggest you look into getting a sluice box. A small sluice box would probably be the idea to start out with.
The great thing about a sluice box is that it can process around ten to twenty times the amount of gravel in comparison to the gold pan and you will not have to work nearly as hard at it.
