Gold Producing Areas

It has been said that approximately 350 million ounces of gold alone are held in hoards. To the contrary, the monetary reserves in the United States at the ending of 1971 came out to being a total amount of 291.6 million ounces. The known of gold reserves in the United States of some tens of millions ounces can mainly concentrated in South Dakota in Homestake and in Nevada in Carin and Cortez gold deposits. There are also copper accumulations in Bingham, Utah that produce gold as a byproduct as well. Experts have said that the gold that does remain in the earth and still undiscovered is most likely very dispersed gold like the gold found in Carlin and Cortez that were not found in the early days. One of the main geologic problems that are associated to the gold in deposits in the United States has to do with the geologic and geochemical nature of the disseminated type deposits. Even though these deposits probably correspond to the greatest reasonably high grade resources in the United States, more research on these seems to indicate that it would potentially be a good pay off. Experts have already learned a great deal about the geologic settling and the geochemical makeup of these deposits, and they are going to continue being researched. Nonetheless, there have not been any new discoveries reported since Cortez, Nevada in 1966. Whether or not there are areas that are simply being over looked is still not known but believed to be so. The greatest gold producing area in the world is located in South Africa. Equivalents of the Precambrian gold uranium placer deposits of the Rand are not very common, and none of them are even close to what has been discovered. It would be interesting to find out what important geological factors took place when these deposits were being formed. If this was a question that was known of, it would probably be possible for experts to be able to predict where gold could be found and when other similar instances took place in the past. Very great amounts of gold were most likely eroded from the Precambrian deposits of the Canadian Shield in Quebec and Ontario, however not much gold has been found in the younger rocks that overly the Shield on the south edge even though these were very sampled during the beginning of the 1966’s. Is it possible that there are other places where gold has been concentrated in this way?
