The Krugerrand: The South African Krugerrand is the first legal-tender bullion coin to get worldwide acceptance in this modern time, it was introduced in 1970. Even to now, most gold owners equal gold owning with Krugerrand owning. The Canadian Maple Leaf was the first competition of the Krugerrand, it was introduced in 1979. The Canadian Maple Leaf eventually supplanted the Krugerrand as a top seller worldwide, getting a very wide market share as a one ounce pure gold coin.

The majority of the competing most important gold bullion coins contain one ounce of pure gold, but some are alloyed, which can confuse gold investors. The Krugerrand has one pure troy ounce, but above all it is 0.9167 fine. Fineness is referred to by the pure gold weight per one thousand parts. The fineness of 0.9167 can be translated for example, to 91.67 percent pure gold. Fineness doesn’t refer to the quantity of pure gold that is in the coin, but is talking about the overall purity instead.

Other Gold Coins
The U.S. mint introduced the United States Eagle in 1986, the Austrian Philarmonic was introduced soon after, in 1989. The United States Eagle is the most popular bullion used by American investors. It has the same fineness as the Krugerrand, 0.9167 fine. The United States Eagle weighs a little more than one ounce like the Krugerrand. The Austrian Philarmonic and the Canadian Maple Leaf have a slight difference, they weigh one ounce and are 0.9999 fine. As we mentioned previously, the key factor is that these four coins weigh one pure ounce of gold, although they might weigh a little more than one ounce in total. Due to this the price can be readily compared. The modern bullion coin Market is dominated by these four coins, bullion coins give investors a very stable market for the most part. The primary reason for their success has been due to this. Nonetheless, in 1984 an exception occurred, the U.S. congress forbade the import of the Krugerrand as part of the sanctions imposed on the South African economy. The premium dropped to a little more than the gold price and never recovered entirely.
