Evaluating a Multipurpose
Metal Detector

There are a few different things that need to be kept in mind when making a decision about whether a multipurpose detector is appropriate for being used for gold prospecting and because of this there are two main characteristics that gold has that needs to be looked into. To begin with keep in mind that gold can in most cases be found in much mineralized soils. Another thing to be considered is that gold nuggets do not have a definite size to them; they come in different sizes and shapes. The main thing that should be focused on here is the sizes that gold nuggets come in. Nuggets are not always the most appropriate word for them either; often times they are simply gold flakes or little pieces of gold that are found. Because of these factors, they have a great amount of influence on the way gold detectors have been made and need to be looked into when deciding if a multipurpose detector would be more appropriate for prospecting. Gold units (as they are often called) have the special ability of being able to do away with the interference of very mineralized soil (also known as ground canceling) and also have a built in loop for searching that is made to be able to locate even small flakes or gold pieces.
