Does the Loop Size on a Metal Detector Matter?
If you have decided to get a multi purpose metal detector for gold prospecting, make sure it has the ability of ground canceling and that it is able to detect targets that are small in size. Given that almost all of these detectors have been made thinking about coin shooting, the regular loops (which is the plastic loop that the operator moves over the ground and which is utilized to transmit and receives the signal that then lets the operator know if there is an interesting target or not) and these are usually made to detect objects that are the size of a coin. This would be enough for to detect gold nuggets that are around this same size. Obviously this would differ depending on the type of the detector and the size of the loop. Prospectors should use different size nuggets on the detector they are looking at and check the detection of the depth in the air and if possible in mineralized ground. Keep in mind that if the target cannot be detected in the air that it will not be able to be heard in the ground. The smaller standardized loops in general boost the prospectors’ chances of being able to detect the smaller pieces of gold in the ground. Almost all the coils that are used for hunting coins are around eight or nine inches in diameter. There are also smaller sized coils which are three or four inches in diameter. The smaller coils are more sensitive to targets that are smaller in size. However, they cannot detect as deep as the larger coils can, so it’s a good idea to have both. |
