Desert Gold Placers
Make sure to not confuse these with bajada placers that also take place in a number of desert areas. These go along with the ground rules for placer deposition but desert placers are often times too opposing to established placer science that many people have given their own category as it is.
Make sure also not to confuse desert placers with eolian placers since these are formed with the wind as well as desert stream placers that have been formed by real placer incidents.
An actual and real desert placer is a placer that has been scooped out of a residual, eluvial, eolian, stream or any other placer deposit and that has been carried at a certain velocity caused by dessert down pour that then causes flash floods. The gold deposits are then taken up and brought down a dry wash and at times on a level desert land. As soon as the flash flood is created it dissolves itself even faster and the ability it has to carry a load decreases in such a fast way that the load is discarded at odd levels.
Mineral deposits that are weighty can be dropped at bedrock too, whether this is at the surface or in between. It will remain in this spot until another down pour causes another flash flood and the whole procedure starts again.
Because of the special way in which it is deposited there is hardly anything but the little placer deposit dropped by the flash flood. In some cases these can be very rich, but like flood gold, any development of added searching is usually not worth it.
After you have already been over a specific area out in a desert placer it is not convenient to go back to it again. Flood gold continues to re-concentrate every year in the same spot, but desert placers do not very often.
