Coolgarde

To get to Coolgarde all you need to do is take the paved Fort Irwin Road from Randsburg Barstow Road. You will find that the Coolgarde Camp is around three miles further down the road. This is a placer mining area and a good amount of gold has been mined in the past here. The placer mines in this area were the first that were worked on here and it is always possible to at least get a little bit of gold while in this area. Given that in the past the tools that were used for dry washing were so ineffective that the old timers missed a good amount of the gold.

Grapevine district
The Grapevine district is located in the Paradise Mountains and right under it you can find Barstow. This was never a very good gold producing area however it did have a good amount of silver and was famous because of it. However the area did have lode and placer gold in it. The gold in this area occurred in quartz veins in the granite rocks. The veins were very narrow but did not go down very deep. There was one specific gold mine in this area that was mined a good amount which is called the Olympus. To get to this area take a left off of the Fort Irwin Road around five miles from Barstow.
