Colorado Gold Prospecting
In Colorado, gold prospecting is not the fairly simple task it was in the past given the fact that most outcrops or exposures of mineralized rock have been examined and sampled. Now prospectors must examine not only these exposures, but in addition broken rock on mine dumps and exposures of mineralized rock in accessible mine workings. Gold, if present, might not be noticeable in the rock, and discovery will depend on the outcome of laboratory analyses. In most cases, samples of around three pounds of representative mineralized rock need to be sent to a commercial laboratory or assay office for assay. Evidently, awareness about the geological nature of gold deposits and principally of the rocks and deposits in the area of interest will give support to the prospector. The objective of panning for gold is to be rewarded by the glitter it offers and evidently the monetary aspects of such. Some amount of success in obtaining gold is also directly related to going to the best areas after having studied the mining records and the geology of the diverse mining districts. In Colorado serious gold prospecting is not something that just anybody can get into. Serious prospecting requires of sufficient capital given the long and very tiresome operation that needs to be done before the work starts. Anyone that is considering prospecting as a serious job should be aware of the expenses in involved in it such as travel expenses that are needed to go from one place to another, having the adequate type of vehicle, all the equipment that needs to be invested in (which can be quite costly in some cases) and will always need to be aware that not ever prospecting trip leads to success. Keep in mind that the individuals that are interested in taking this on either as a weekend thing or as something a bit more serious, need to be aware of the traveling and the camping that type of country requires and should also be well aware of the type of equipment and clothing that will be needed as well. A well prepared prospector will know that even though a valuable discovery was not found, his adventure was challenging, interesting and that he learned something from it. |
