Changing Center of Gravity

After the dredge is working, with a complete current of water and gravel through it, the extra weight moves the center of gravity down and the turning is not as pronounced as in the stage of launching. There is not a lot of advantage that can be gained by the changing of the center of gravity in the anchor that is sideways and turning is always dangerous.

The center of gravity does not only change throughout operation but there is another power that assists in stabilizing the dredge. This is the force of the jet squandering itself inside of the pressure box that pushes against the force and tries to turn the dredge over.

It is almost as if the dredge were floating in the stream and an individual kept on pushing it with a jet from a fire hose. If this were to occur it would cause the dredge to move down the stream quite a bit quicker than the current since it would have a great amount of pressure behind it.

When choosing points of anchor the combined power of the stream current as well as the jet current needs to be taken into consideration. Anchor line, points on the dredge and points on the shore where the line is attached to has to be strong enough to withhold both of these forces and not only the forces of the stream.

If these two factors are taken into consideration while you are picking out the anchor points and where to launch the dredge, you should not have any problems. If you do not pay attention to them though your dredge could turn over in even a moderately flowing stream.
