Bullion Gold District

This district is located around thirty miles south of highway 80 and off of highway 21. The better areas here are located in Triplett and Mill Gulches on the side of the Crescent Valley. Lode deposits can in addition be found in the area. The Bullion Mine is at the moment not active. It has been however conserved by a permanent guardian that lives at the property. The road to the actual mine is closed off with a locked gate. The old town site burned down in the range fires of 1999 and merely a few burned boards and rock foundations are left of the lower older town site.

In 1869 silver was discovered and the next year in the spring of 1870, a full scale boom started up. On the other hand, the difficult ore always slowed down Bullion. Bullion peaked in 1874 but the next year, the mining companies the collapsed one by one. Nonetheless, production focused on copper and by 1880, Bullion had recharged to have a more population. But by the ending of the 1880s, things around Bullion were pretty dead. All the mills and smelters had been closed. 1916 was the principal production year for Bullion when more than one million pounds of copper were removed, but any expectation of a permanent recovery washed out and by 1918, all activity was at a standstill. Bullion was fundamentally a ghost town after that. Even though some mining has taken place since, it did nothing to restore the town. Total production for the district is almost around five million. There is not much left in Bullion today. big slag heaps, smelter foundations, stone ruins and a little cemetery are the only markers.
