British Columbia Grubstakes

Grubstakes in British Columbia will be granted on the understanding that the grantee is to spend a minimum of sixty days in the field prospecting and that he will not accept any payment for services carried out during the time from any other source. In case the prospector is not able to act in accordance with the requirements, he agrees to give back a part of the grubstake funds that go according to the part of sixty days that have not been spent prospecting. The time that is taken to travel from and to the prospecting area and the days that were taken off from prospecting are not included in the specific sixty days. As far as can be done, the field season will need to be of continual prospecting until the terms and conditions of the grubstake have been concluded. There are certain conditions in which time out is allowed such as in the case of illness, bad weather conditions, or for protection necessary supplies. These grubstakes are not supposed to be used on weekend prospecting nor are they intended for small trips from a home base. The prospector is asked to keep a record or diary and the plan the area that he is going to be working on by drawing it on a map. The potential magnitude of the samples that is turned in to get a free assay can be better resolute if images, mainly to know the extent of the mineralization, are kept and recorded in the diary or record that is kept. The finished diary needs to be given to the Department when the prospecting season has finished. In cases in which there are at least two or three prospectors working together, they can agree to turn in just one diary amongst the group, but they will all have to sign it in agreement. Grubstakes are given in order to keep the search for mineral occurrences with mine exploiting potential. These grants have not been created for the purpose or exploiting or developing mineral occurrences that have already been found. There will only be one year where prospecting ground that has been staked by a prospector while on a grubstake, will be permitted. There will not be any time allowed for prospecting ground that has already been staked by a prospector while he is on a grubstake. Neither will time be given nor allotted to old properties that have had work done on them, that is, unless the mineral occurrences that have been found in them have economic significance and is discovered for the first time. The government does not hold back any interest in any of the discoveries that are made by a grantee except for that which can be applied in accordance with all Free Miners. At the same time, when grubstakes are granted, there will be predilection given to the applicants that have set up having others accompany them while on the field, which can be a group of two or three prospectors. However the teaming up with other people does not mean that there will be joint ownership of personal property or any mining claims. If the prospectors wish to carry out joint ownership, they will need to declare so by stating it in a correctly arranged document that then needs to be signed by all the participants. This document will be in mutual agreement by the members of the team and does not have anything to do with the grubstake program British Columbia offers.
