Gold Panning

Now you will need to dip a little bit of water in the pan and tip it backward as this will allow you to wash the concentrates that are left in the pan to the bottom. You will need to move the pan in circular motions so that the contents of the pan spread out so you can see them and inspect them. The bigger flakes of gold as well as the sapphires, garnets and anything that is big enough to be picked with tweezers will need to be taken out of the pan.

Some people also use suction bottles to suck up the find gold flour in the pan but this should always be done under the water.

Once you have taken out the precious metals and gold, make sure you place them in a bottle to keep them safe. You can put a little bit of water in the bottle, as this will make them more evident.

There are some people that suggest adding a little drop of mercury into the concentrate that can’t be picked out with the tweezers and this is a process that is known as amalgamation however, this should only be done in cases where a large amount of material is being worked on because a small amount will only give you a teensy little bit. Mercury also has a tendency of ruining the color of the gold which then makes it almost impossible to sell so using it is certainly not worth it when you are only dealing with a little bit of material.

The more experienced gold panners might have their own way of panning gold and may have a different way of doing this job. For those of you who are just beginning the best tip we can give you is to be patient and to practice, talk to other people that have experience, watch how other people do it and practice. Make sure to get a good gold pan and to keep it clean, as it will become your most important tool in this hobby or job.
