Given that it is insoluble, even the smallest specks of gold are conserved and given that gold is so flexible it becomes crushed down into diverse shapes because of the stones that pound into it as it moves down the length of a stream. Nonetheless, contrary to what some people say and want to believe, it does not weld itself together and turn into bigger nuggets. Pieces of gold may break down but this will take place from another piece. It has been shown that the largest piece of gold come from lodes and not from placers.
The rounder and flatter the nuggets are that you locate most likely means they have been in the stream for a more extended amount of time and have been banged around more than the ones that come in the crystalline form. Crystalline nuggets are courser gold that has most likely not move as much from its starting place.
The gold that can be located in older placers is typically better quality than those that have their source close by and this is perhaps due to the alloy silver being removed by the action of the water. When there is a good quantity of gold in a placer deposit, it is the consequence of very favorable circumstances. This takes place in areas where there is a wide-ranging quantity of mineralization, rapid rock decay, and accurately developed stream prototypes. When all these factors agree mutually at the same time, large gold placers have the chance of becoming formed.
The development that happens is not a complicated process; in areas where the gold has set down, the strength of the stream is powerful enough to carry with it the pieces of gold that had settled.
The prosperity of a deposit depends entirely on the transporting strength of the water and if the bedrock is capable of holding onto the gold that has deposited, and evidently how the gold source reacts in the stream.
When a stream is trying away at the materials, these materials are continuously being moved downstream. While this type of movement takes place, the water arranges it and this causes more of a concentration of the elements that are heavier.
Disposition then takes place in the stream when the speed is not that fast anymore, which can come about as a result of changes in volume or grade. When this happens, the gold sits with other sediments. There are times in which the gold becomes trapped within the bedrock.
Bedrock occurs when the bottom of a stream is concrete rock. When the gravel becomes covered with certain material such as volcanic material, the stream will flow over this new floor or bed and formulates deposits on what is known as false bedrock.
This is one of the motives why there are some areas that may have more than one layer of gravel with gold in it. One trouble free way of observing how a stream lays down these various layers is to look at spots where road cuts have exposed old stream deposits as well as in canyons where the benches can be seen.
After there is solid and smooth bedrock, it is not the best place for a placer deposit. The bedrocks that have the top formations are the ones that have cracks and crevices and those that are very decomposed, because these are the ones that you will be able to easily grab onto the gold from.
