Arizona Gold Prospecting
While doing some research on Arizona and gold prospecting, there was an article that caught my attention and that I believe is very important, and that is the safety that must employed when prospecting. One point to focus on is the weather conditions one is working in. In Arizona, gold prospecting can actually be quite dangerous in the summer if one does not take the necessary precautions. This kind of heat requires of a good supply of water of at least 4 gallons having enough for drinking and emergency backups. Another important thing to remember is to wear light colored clothes and long sleeve shirts. Even though this might seem like an unthinkable thing to wear, long sleeve shirts will protect your body from skin cancer and will keep the body cooler and obviously, sunscreen is a must. Another important item to have is gloves. Gloves will not only protect your skin from cancer but will also serve as a protection against the dirt which dried your hands, protects them from the scratches that moving rocks causes, blisters, insects and so forth. It would be wise to invest on a good pair of leather gloves roping gloves. There are soft, flexible and comfortable ones available. One other very important issue that deserves attention when in Arizona doing gold prospecting is Hyponatremia that can occur in extremely hot areas. Hyponatremia is a medical term that refers to a very low level of sodium in the body. When a human body goes through hyponatremia, the outcome can be fatal if the condition is not taken care of right away. This condition is common with water intoxication. This occurs when a person consumes an excess amount of water causing dilution of electrolytes in the blood. This condition can also occur when a person sweats excessively causing their body again to lose a great amount of electrolytes. The beginning stages of hyponatremia include nausea, vomiting, and headache. Convulsions can also occur, state of unconsciousness, and in some cases even coma. It is suggested to take along a salty snack to maintain the levels of sodium in your body up as well as provide carbohydrates for energy. In Arizona gold prospecting in the summer is a serious thing and precautions should be taken when attempting to work under these conditions. |
