Activities During the Mission

Contacts in the area
As soon as you are in the area where you will be installing the base camp, get into contact with the authorities of the area (such as the chief of police, political lieutenant, etc) and ask for assistance, especially in the recruitment of the personnel. Clearly fix the work conditions, tariffs, bonuses, redundancies, etc, before hiring.

Field activity
A good installation should never be considered a waste of time, even in a provisional field. The land needs to be free of vegetation, the sanitary pits and those for trash needs to be as far away as possible, in order for them not to cause problems and avoid insects and animals. In general the local personnel know where a field should not be installed.

Activities of the mission or sector chief in the camp (general case of strategic prospecting)

• Preparation of the itineraries
• Planning of the jobs
• Reunions and orders to the prospecting team chiefs after having done a study of their itineraries.
• Rationalizing and distribution of supplies (estimate of shopping and provisions)
• Watch the state of the vehicles and their maintenance.
• Control the amount of fuel and prevision of the consumption.
• Watch the packaging and the sending list of the samples (also control the containers and wrappings for the samples).
• Purchases: supplies, fuels, paperwork material, batteries, medication, etc.
• Administration: invoices, payments, salaries, contracts, requesting of liquid cash, etc.
• Connection with the base.
• Preparation of the maps and work results.
• Study of petrographic samples.
• Study of alluvial samples.
• Report of the results of the maps.
• Redaction of a monthly inform and sending it off.
• Going through particular areas of the sector.
